Major Duties
Under general supervision of the Director of University Counseling Services and the medical supervision of the Student Health Center (SHC) Director/Medical Chief of Staff, the Psychiatrist performs assigned medical psychiatric treatment activities. The incumbent evaluates and diagnoses students presenting mental health problems.
- Prescribes medication as needed and follows up on treatment to ensure appropriate resolution of illness; counsels students on related medical/personal problems and health measures.
- Refers to other professionals for treatment when appropriate, securing treatment for students requiring services beyond those provided by the campus; assists in the psychiatric hospitalization of students when appropriate.
- Provides crisis psychiatric evaluations; serves as psychiatric supervisor to department psychiatric residents and provides consultation services to psychologists, clinical social workers, marriage and family therapists and pre-doctoral counseling interns; consults with Student Health Center providers as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- Graduation from a medical school recognized by the Medical Board of California.
- Completion of at least one residency program in psychiatry or a related specialty.
- Prior/current affiliation with a hospital or outpatient clinic is preferred.
- CANDIDATE MUST POSSESS A VALID LICENSE TO PRACTICE MEDICINE IN CALIFORNIA
- CURRENT AMERICAN BOARD OF MEDICAL SPECIALITIES (ABMS) CERTIFICATION IN THE SPECIALTY OF PSYCHIATRY (OR WITHIN 24 MONTHS OF EMPLOYMENT)
- DRUG ENFORCEMENT AGENT (DEA) CERTIFICATE AND NUMBER FOR PRESCRIBING PHYSICIANS.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Thorough knowledge to effectively apply principles and methods essential to psychiatry and the diagnosis and treatment of common medical disorders and in the assessment and response to emergency situations.
- Thorough knowledge of local, State and Federal laws and regulations pertaining to the medical field and psychiatry.
- Thorough knowledge of applicable professional ethics and standards, which include but not limited to the County Medical Society, California Medical Association, and the American Medical Association.
- Ability and specialized skills to serve as a mentor and resource consultant for other health center personnel and establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of practitioners and specialists, as well as students, faculty, and staff.
Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

- Classification: Physician-Specialty Services / 7750 / grade 1
- The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $6866 - $10,500 (PTE) per month, dependent upon qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is: $6866 - $13,363 per month (PTE).
- HOURS: Part Time; 20 hours per week; Monday through Friday; may include evenings and weekends.
- This is a Temporary position; end date to be determined.
