The Department of Biology at San Diego State University is recruiting for a tenure-track faculty position at the Associate or Full Professor rank in Marine Biology or Ecology, to begin in Fall 2025. The successful candidate will use state-of-the-art approaches to marine ecology, biological oceanography, conservation, restoration, and/or related fields for any level of organization from organisms to ecosystems. The successful candidate will additionally assume a service role as Director of the SDSU Coastal and Marine Institute (CMI) and its laboratory to help lead the growth of this institute as a center of excellence in marine research. This service position includes a reduction in teaching responsibilities during the academic year to provide time to fulfill the role of the CMI director.

They assist with academic petitions, guide degree progression, and work collaboratively with academic departments, the registrar, and other campus offices to tackle a variety of student challenges. Additionally, this role involves active participation in the development and execution of policies and strategic planning in the advising sphere, all aimed at promoting the success, persistence, and timely graduation of students within their specific college or department. This position supports the whole student by providing information and guidance with clarity and kindness. Advising at the Concord campus or representation at events held at other institutions may at times be required.
