The employing unit is the Facilities Services at SDSU Imperial Valley, located 120 miles east of the San Diego campus. The Physical Plant employs 2 employees and consists of approximately 8 acres, with 15 buildings. The campus is open 12 months a year. There are approximately 900 students, 19 full-time faculty members, 90 part-time faculty, and 35 staff members. There is also the Brawley site that has one building falling within the scope of this position.
The IV Campus Facilities Services is responsible for the operation, maintenance, repair, and renovation, remodel, and alteration activities of all campus facilities in support of the academic mission of the university.
Under general supervision from the Assistant Director for Facilities Services & Projects, and lead directly from the Maintenance Mechanic, and in accordance with schedules or instruction, the incumbent performs proficiently a variety of semi-skilled facilities and repair tasks and provides routine preventive maintenance for facilities and systems at SDSU Imperial Valley (Calexico and Brawley).
Expectations – Properly functioning facilities and systems on campus. Thorough and accurate accounting of time and materials. Completion of routine work assignments and performance of additional duties as assigned. Consistent meeting of university needs in a timely and professional manner with increasingly improved skill. Follow-up on every project or task to ensure that all items are completed to the satisfaction of the supervisor/manager. A responsible attendance record, punctuality, and consistent meeting of deadlines. Performance of work in a manner that supports and facilitates the work of others in the Facilities Services and the university community. This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits-eligible, temporary position anticipated to end on or before May 31, 2022. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
The individual hired into this role will work on-campus at the SDSU Imperial Valley campus.
Education and Experience
Any combination of experience and training equivalent to six months of experience as a trades assistant or laborer, or six months of hands-on experience in general facilities and systems maintenance and repair work.
At least one year of experience in the preventive maintenance of HVAC systems.
Experience working in an academic or public setting.
Knowledge of PPE.
Bilingual (English and Spanish)
Licenses and/or Certifications Required:
Valid California Driver’s License
Compensation and Benefits
Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources. Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $4,408 per month.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,408 - $5,544 per month.
SDSU COVID-19 Vaccine Policy
In accordance with the California State University systemwide policy, students, faculty, and staff must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or provide a valid medical or religious exemption in order to access campus. An individual is considered fully vaccinated two weeks after their second dose of a two-shot vaccine or two weeks after the first dose of a single-shot vaccine.
The individual hired into this role will be required to submit their completed vaccination documentation to the university’s secure online health portal prior to beginning work. Individuals with an approved medical or religious exemption on file with the university will be required to participate in SDSU’s COVID-19 testing program.
