Position Summary

SDSU Imperial Valley is a campus/college of San Diego State University serving the desert area of southeastern California. It is accredited as an integral unit of SDSU and operates under the same governance structure and university policies. Established in 1959 by an act of the State Legislature, SDSU IV offers its programs at two locations in Imperial County: Calexico and Brawley. Offering four-year and two-year undergraduate degrees, graduate degrees, and post-baccalaureate credential programs, SDSU Imperial Valley helps matriculated students achieve their higher education goals. Currently, SDSU IV employs 138 full-time faculty and staff members.

The IV Campus Division of Education (DOE) provides students with the program information necessary for the teacher preparation program.  It is responsible for gathering all documentation for the credential program and for implementing policies and procedures required by the Commission for Teacher Credentialing, NCATE and the university’s own program requirements.

This position will serve as support for students who wish to pursue a teaching credential.  The Administrative Support Coordinator will provide information regarding admission, policies and procedures to the teacher education program.  The Administrative Support Coordinator  will provide support to the DOE in preparing, gathering and maintaining all documentation required for the university’s credential program as well as those required for accrediting agencies such as CTC and NCATE.

Part-time (50%), temporary position anticipated to end on or before one year from start date with the possibility of reappointment. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation.  Standard SDSU work hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs. 

This position is physically located at the SDSU Imperial Valley Campus in Calexico.

Education and Experience

Entry to this classification requires a fully functional knowledge of and skill in standard office procedures and practices, as well as an ability to understand and operate in a variety of organizational structures. Additionally, incumbents are expected to have a thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation and be able to clearly communicate orally and in writing. Some positions may require a knowledge of business mathematics beyond basic arithmetic. The ability to use and quickly learn new office support technology systems and software packages is also a prerequisite.  

These entry qualifications would normally be obtained through a high school program, technical/vocational program, or their equivalents combined with several years of related office work experience.

Licenses and/or Certifications Required

Valid California Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within 10 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with PowerPoint and Publisher software; 

  • Bilingual English-Spanish

  • Use of video equipment and editing of film for use in presentations or materials;

  • Knowledge of Blackboard and TaskStream platforms.

  • Bachelor’s Degree

Specialized Skills 

  • Bilingual; English and Spanish;

  • Excellent computing skills, preferred experience with Excel and Word programs.

  • Strong planning and organizational skills;

  • Excellent people skills and friendly telephone personality;

  • High degree of initiative and ability to work independently;

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $1,638 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $1,638 - $2,574 per month. 

SDSU Vaccine Policy

In accordance with the California State University systemwide policy, students, faculty, and staff must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or provide a valid medical or religious exemption in order to access campus.  An individual is considered fully vaccinated two weeks after their second dose of a two-shot vaccine or two weeks after the first dose of a single-shot vaccine. Afterward a COVID-19 booster is required to continue to be considered fully vaccinated.

The individual hired into this role will be required to submit their completed vaccination documentation to the university’s secure online health portal prior to beginning work.  Individuals with an approved medical or religious exemption on file with the university will be required to participate in SDSU’s COVID-19 testing program.
