Position Summary
Under general supervision, the Automotive/Equipment Mechanic performs the full range of skilled, journey-level automotive mechanical work, including but not limited to; inspect automotive, maintenance, and construction equipment to determine necessary corrective action; perform diagnostic tests using engine analyzers; diagnose and repair electrical systems in vehicles and equipment; make minor to major repairs to automotive and/or equipment; fabricate, construct and/or modify new or specialized equipment; operate and maintain tools, machinery and computerized systems used in the maintenance, repair and fabrication of automotive, maintenance and/or constriction equipment; troubleshoot and repair all systems and components; perform smog tests; respond to emergency calls; may repair pump and compressor engines; perform minor welding and brazing work to ensure compliance with standard trade practices; maintain vehicle inspection, maintenance and repair records using manual and/or computerized record-keeping systems; prepare standard reports; provide instruction and lead direction to semi-skilled and unskilled assistants.
This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.

Department Summary
SDSU Facilities Services is a customer-service based organization providing facility maintenance activities through a transparent and deliberate process. It is responsible for the operation, maintenance, repair, renovation, remodel, and alteration activities in support of the academic and research mission of the university. Facilities Services employs over 235 employees (full time and students) and supports approximately eight million square feet of building space (including residence halls and parking structures) and 280 acres of improved and unimproved land.

Compensation and Benefits
Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $5,892 per month.
Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.
