Position Summary

Under the direction of the Head Volleyball Coach, the 2nd Assistant Volleyball Coach will support and enhance the mission of the San Diego State University Athletic Department.  The Coaching Assistant will be responsible for assisting in the direction of the Women’s Volleyball program, performing a variety of coaching functions related to the sport of volleyball in the Athletic Department.  These coaching functions include, but are not limited to the following: recruiting, administration, coaching, teaching, staging, and fundraising. 

This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, temporary position anticipated to end on or before February 28, 2025, with the possibility of reappointment. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.  

The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.

Department Summary

The Department of Athletics, utilizing the services of over 150 employees, is responsible for the intercollegiate athletics program at San Diego State University.  Currently, there are 19 sport programs, approximately 550 student-athletes, and 17 offices in the department.  The offices include the following:  The Aztec Club, Administration, Athletic Medicine, Business Office, Compliance, Corporate Sales, Development, Equipment, Event Management/Facilities and Operations, Human Resources, Information Technology, Marketing, Media Relations, Strength and Conditioning, Student-Athlete Academic Support Services, Ticket Office, and Video.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Five years NCAA Division I, professional, elite club, or other high-level competition as a volleyball player or volleyball coach.

Key Qualifications

  • Head or Assistant Coach for women in the NCAA or comparable professional/elite club team.
  • Broad recruiting experience.
  • Organized in management of volleyball programs.
  • Experience in Setter training.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $6,190 per month. 

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $5,168 - $6,946 per month.
