Position Summary

The SDSU Imperial Valley Student Disability Services Coordinator plays a crucial role in ensuring that students with disabilities receive tailored services and accommodations to support their educational journey. As the primary point of contact, you will work with a diverse caseload of students, including those with visual and motor impairments, hearing loss, and cognitive or psychological disabilities. Your responsibilities encompass reviewing disability documentation, assessing accommodation needs, and serving as an authoritative resource on disability-related matters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accommodation Assessment: Review disability documentation and assess the need for appropriate accommodations, ensuring equal access to educational resources.
  • Student Support: Serve as a knowledgeable resource for students, faculty, and staff, providing guidance on disability-related legislation, best practices, and available services.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the SDSU IV Dean of Students to oversee the provision of academic and testing accommodations.
  • Advocacy: Advocate for students’ rights and foster an inclusive environment that promotes accessibility and equity.

Position Information

  • Full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, temporary position anticipated to end on June 30, 2025 with the possibility of reappointment.
  • Position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation. 
  • Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
  • This position is located at SDSU Imperial Valley in Calexico, CA, approximately 120 miles east of the San Diego main campus. 
  • The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in Imperial Valley.

Department Summary

Student Disability Services in the Division of Student Affairs and Campus Diversity provides a full range of accommodations and services to SDSU Imperial Valley students with physical, psychological, and learning disabilities, facilitating equal access to the educational process. This is accomplished through direct service support, review of campus accessibility, adaptive technology, assessment, test accommodation, and a variety of other services. Accommodations vary according to types of disabilities and may include notetaking, accommodated testing, sign language interpreters, and textbooks in accessible formats. Students with temporary disabilities may request notetaking, assistance with test-taking, special parking, and/or cart service. Student Disability Services at SDSU IV currently serves over 50 students, which includes undergraduate and graduate students. The provision of these academic support services, technology, and advocacy promotes the retention and graduation of students with disabilities at SDSU.

Education and Experience

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown below may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Possession of the required knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth. A master’s degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.

Key Qualifications

  • Bilingual: English & Spanish
  • Experience using Microsoft Office applications and Google applications.
  • Working knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act [1], Sections 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended in 1998, FERPA, and other relevant state and federal laws and codes.
  • Knowledge of emerging educational and computer technology and applications in the higher education environment sufficient to authorize the use of technology suitable for a variety of disabilities.
  • Work experience in disability services at the postsecondary level.
  • Working knowledge of assistive technology hardware and software, as well as standard computer hardware and software.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Experience advising and/or counseling underrepresented, low-income, and first-generation college students and working effectively with students from diverse backgrounds.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $4,841 per month. 

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,841 - $6,884 per month.
