Position Summary

Join Our Team as a Development Coordinator at SDSU!

San Diego State University is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Development Coordinator to provide essential administrative, project management, and event coordination support for our development and fundraising teams. This role will be responsible for supporting two fundraisers for the areas of campus-wide principal gifts and the SDSU Mission Valley Innovation District.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Professional Administrative Support: Provide day-to-day support, including scheduling, preparing documents (reports, agendas, briefings, presentations), preparing expense reports (travel claims, personal reimbursements, credit card reports), and managing internal and external communications.
  • Project Management: Track project timelines, manage priorities, and ensure timely completion of key tasks in support of development and fundraising initiatives.
  • Event Coordination: Organize and coordinate logistics for prospect and donor event ensuring seamless execution. This includes being an on-site coordinator, managing RSVPs, event preparation and teardown, program development, coordinating speakers and guests, and interfacing with prospects and donors. 
  • Team Collaboration: Support administrative objectives by contributing to a variety of tasks essential to the success of the development and fundraising teams.

Position Information

  • This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position.
  • This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation.
  • Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs. (Available for travel and work outside regular hours, including weekends, on and off campus.)
  • This position is approved for partial telecommuting with onsite work in San Diego.

University Relations and Development (URAD) advances SDSU’s mission through strategic priorities like becoming a premier public research university, fostering resilience, promoting equity and inclusion, and centering students.

URAD builds lasting relationships with alumni, parents, donors, students, and the community to generate private support for diverse programs. It offers services in stewardship, events, gift administration, and communications.

In 2023-2024, URAD raised $131.9M, awarded 2,251 scholarships, and welcomed 5,006 first-time donors.  The latest fundraising success can be credited to the university’s goal of building a world-class university campus, research center, and multi-use stadium in Mission Valley; all serving higher education, the public good, and the community’s goals and aspirations.

Education and Experience

Entry to this classification requires a fully functional knowledge of and skill in standard office procedures and practices, as well as an ability to understand and operate in a variety of organizational structures. Additionally, incumbents are expected to have a thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation and be able to clearly communicate orally and in writing. Some positions may require a knowledge of business mathematics beyond basic arithmetic. The ability to use and quickly learn new office support technology systems and software packages is also a prerequisite.

These qualifications would normally be obtained through a high school program, technical/vocational program, or their equivalents combined with several years of related office work experience.

Key Qualifications

  • Experience in performing basic prospect research and data analysis.
  • Experience in coordinating meetings and special events.
  • Experience with marketing and communications.
  • Experience in generating emails, letters, cards, invoices, etc., using mail merge functions.
  • Experience with financial or biographical databases, such as Ellucian or similar systems.
  • Experience in higher education or a public sector environment is preferred.
  • Experience in fundraising or development is preferred.
  • Experience with travel, mileage, reimbursements, payables, and procurement processing is preferred.

Licenses/Certifications Required

Valid California driver’s license within 10 days of hire.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $4,621 per month. 

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,058 - $6,653 per month.
