Position Summary

The Public Affairs/Communications Specialist II (PACS II), under the direct supervision of the Director of Communications Services, communicates about the student experience and the Division of Student Affairs initiatives on the division’s social media platforms; plans, executes and tracks division and university marketing campaigns that use social media; coordinates social media strategy and messaging within the division and with communicators across campus; monitors social media for current and future threats and opportunities; and stays up to date on current social media trends and technology – evaluating them and making recommendations about use.

This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, temporary position anticipated to end on or before 12/31/2020 with the possibility of reappointment and/or permanency. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.

Education and Experience

Knowledge of the fundamentals of public affairs and/or media relations, and/or some exposure to marketing and marketing research. This background normally is obtained through a college degree, which includes relevant coursework in the field, and up to two years of related professional or technical experience. In addition, strong written and verbal communication skills with a solid foundation in grammar, spelling, and the composition of various communication vehicles are essential to initial entry to this classification.

Preferred Qualifications and Specialized Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, English, public relations, marketing or related degree or job experience
  • Minimum two years job experience in social media and social media marketing campaigns.
  • Knowledge of graphic design techniques.
  • Ability to shoot and edit digital photos.
  • Experience in shooting short digital videos and experience producing and editing short videos.
  • Experience crafting, executing and tracking the success of marketing and communication concepts and plans.
  • Organized and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to multitask and meet daily and extended deadlines.
  • Ability to conduct research, interviews and write for internal and external audiences.
  • Knowledge of and experience in proofreading, editing and using AP style.
  • Experience in using Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite and Adobe Premiere Pro.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and independently.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary upon appointment not expected to exceed $3,863 per month. CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,515 - $6,358 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.
