Position Summary

Student Account Services (SAS) is a student-oriented Financial Services unit that provides prompt, reliable, and secure financial services to students, parents, faculty, and all members of the greater SDSU community. The department’s responsibilities include university cashiering operations for both SDSU main campus and Global Campus, and the review of student fees collected, student billing and accounts receivable functions, check printing and the student direct deposit process, campus fee reporting and reconciliation, financial aid record reconciliation and cash management, and administration of the Short-Term Loan program. 

The Accounting Technician II is a key member of the SAS team and will support the department by performing back-office duties such as processing refunds, printing checks, performing reconciliations, running reports, printing bills and statements and other similar tasks.  The incumbent will also assist students, parents, other customers, and university staff with student account inquiries and will resolve student account and other related issues via phone, email, virtually or in-person. The Accounting Technician II will work very closely with the Student Financial Center (SFC), which provides centralized, individual financial case management and counseling to students, parents, and families.

This is a full-time (1.0 time-base) benefits eligible, permanent (probationary) position. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.

The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.

Education and Experience


Experience: Equivalent to three years of progressively responsible financial record-keeping experience which has provided the above knowledge and abilities.

Education: Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities

Specialized Skills Required

  • Work assignments require excellent desktop skills using software such as Microsoft Suite or Google Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Possess knowledge of State policy and procedure to assure purchases are made in the best interest of the State. 
  • Four years of progressively more difficult and responsible general clerical or administrative assignments of which at least one year is varied purchasing or accounting activities
  • Prior experience utilizing integrated computer software system such as Oracle is strongly preferred.


Compensation and Benefits

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources. Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $3,800 per month.

Classification Salary Range: $3,282 - $5,449 per month.

SDSU COVID-19 Vaccine Policy

In accordance with the California State University systemwide policy, students, faculty, and staff must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or provide a valid medical or religious exemption in order to access campus. Individuals are considered fully vaccinated for five months after their final dose of a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine or for two months after receiving the only dose of a single-dose vaccine. Afterward a COVID-19 booster is required to continue to be considered fully vaccinated. 

The individual hired into this role will be required to submit their completed vaccination documentation to the university’s secure online health portal prior to beginning work.  Individuals with an approved medical or religious exemption on file with the university will be required to participate in SDSU’s COVID-19 testing program.
