Position Summary

SDSU Imperial Valley is a campus/college of San Diego State University serving the desert area of southeastern California. It is accredited as an integral unit of SDSU and operates under the same governance structure and university policies. Established in 1959 by an act of the State Legislature, SDSU IV offers its programs at two locations in Imperial County: Calexico and Brawley. Offering four-year and two-year undergraduate degrees, graduate degrees, and post-baccalaureate credential programs, SDSU Imperial Valley helps matriculated students achieve their higher education goals. Currently, SDSU IV employs 138 full-time faculty and staff members.

The SDSU Imperial Valley, working in conjunction with the School of Nursing and School of Public Health at San Diego, are mutually responsible for the coordination and development of the nursing/public health academic programs.  

The School of Nursing has both undergraduate and graduate degree programs, and trains future nurses in conjunction with a wide variety of community health care agencies who provide student placement for educational experiences and training purposes.

The Administrative Support Coordinator II is responsible for the overall administrative operation of the SDSU IV School of Nursing and School of Public Health will act as lead to administrative staff and student workers. The position serves as a resource for the school faculty, staff, and students, and is responsible for day-to-day operations and special projects.

In addition, the position is responsible for instructional, non-instructional, operating and San Diego State University Research Foundation budgets. Other duties include but are not limited to: compiling information and drafting annual accreditation reports and documents; primary administrative support to associate director and directors and committees within the school; provision of training to faculty and staff on university, college and school procedures and policies.

Part-time (50%), temporary position anticipated to end on or before one year from start date with the possibility of reappointment. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation.  Standard SDSU work hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.

This position is physically located at the SDSU Imperial Valley Campus in Brawley.

Education and Experience

Entry to this classification requires a fully functional knowledge of and skill in standard office procedures and practices, as well as an ability to understand and operate in a variety of organizational structures. Additionally, incumbents are expected to have a thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation and be able to clearly communicate orally and in writing. Some positions may require knowledge of business mathematics beyond basic arithmetic. The ability to use and quickly learn new office support technology systems and software packages is also a prerequisite. 

These qualifications would normally be obtained through a high school program, technical/vocational program, or their equivalents combined with several years of related office work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in an accredited academic program.
  • Purchasing and travel claim processing experience.
  • Experience in a healthcare environment

Specialized Skills

  • Experience coordinating administrative support functions for a group.
  • Minimum of three years of experience as lead work direction.
  • Experience working in a large, complex organization such as a higher education, public agency, government, military, or health care setting.
  • Experience with development, coordination and tracking of complex budgets.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $1,900 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $1,720 - $2,819.50 per month. 

SDSU Vaccine Policy

In accordance with the California State University systemwide policy, students, faculty, and staff must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or provide a valid medical or religious exemption in order to access campus.  An individual is considered fully vaccinated two weeks after their second dose of a two-shot vaccine or two weeks after the first dose of a single-shot vaccine. Afterward a COVID-19 booster is required to continue to be considered fully vaccinated.

The individual hired into this role will be required to submit their completed vaccination documentation to the university’s secure online health portal prior to beginning work.  Individuals with an approved medical or religious exemption on file with the university will be required to participate in SDSU’s COVID-19 testing program.
