Position Summary

The School of Art and Design in the College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts is a creative learning community in which students develop their practice as artists, designers, and art historians who work in and across media while enhancing their visual, material, and conceptual thinking. Located on the Pacific Rim and at the border with Mexico, the School is dedicated to the integration of art, design, and community building in alignment with the School’s commitments to social / environmental justice and innovative entrepreneurship. Through both discipline-specific and multidisciplinary approaches to teaching and learning, we support students to innovate solutions, express ideas, imagine possibilities, and interpret the world through historical, cultural, and global contexts.

Under general supervision of the School director, this position serves a pivotal role in the efficient and effective functioning of the School, with focus on office coordination, including student services, and public relations and events. The incumbent will work closely with the assistant to the School director and fiscal accounts coordinator to provide support for faculty, students, volunteers, and the School’s community support organization. Greeting all office visitors, this position serves a critical role as the initial point of contact/resolution for students, potential students, faculty members, the community, and others. The administrative support coordinator also is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the School in the areas of communication and marketing, special events planning and execution, and community engagement and alumni relations; this position serves as the primary liaison to the College for these efforts. The individual is expected to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with all stakeholders, including faculty, staff, students, SDSU administration, alumni, donors, and community members.

Full-time, permanent (probationary) position. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation.  Work schedule is Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m.  –  4:30 p.m., with approximately 5% of work hours variable to support School event needs. 

This position is physically located at the SDSU Main Campus in San Diego.

Education and Experience

Entry to this classification requires a fully functional knowledge of and skill in standard office procedures and practices, as well as an ability to understand and operate in a variety of organizational structures. Additionally, ASC IIs are expected to have a thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation and be able to clearly communicate orally and in writing. Some positions may require a knowledge of business mathematics beyond basic arithmetic. The ability to use and quickly learn new office support technology systems and software packages is also a prerequisite. 

These qualifications would normally be obtained through a high school program, technical/vocational program, or their equivalents combined with several years of related office work experience. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in special events planning and execution

  • Experience working in an academic and/or public sector setting

  • Experience in professional use of digital and social media platforms

  • Two to four years of related office work experience

  • Knowledge of ORACLE, ASTRA, PI Profile, Web Portal, MarkView experience desired

  • Prior experience and use of accounting principles

  • Knowledge and experience with State and Foundation budget procedures Comprehensive and detailed knowledge of university infrastructure,policies,and procedures

Specialized Skills 

  • Ability to perform business math, analyze budgetary data, and make accurate projections

  • Ability to prepare clear, accurate financial statements and reports

  • Ability to analyze fiscal problems and develop, recommend, and evaluate proposed solutions

  • Ability to effectively handle interpersonal interactions at all levels and handle highly sensitive interpersonal situations

  • Expertise in the use of standard office computer software with special knowledge of Excel, Access, Accounting software, FileMaker Pro, and other similar software

Compensation and Benefits

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources. Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $3,681 per month.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,681 - $6,034 per month. 

SDSU Vaccine Policy

In accordance with the California State University systemwide policy, students, faculty, and staff must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or provide a valid medical or religious exemption in order to access campus.  An individual is considered fully vaccinated two weeks after their second dose of a two-shot vaccine or two weeks after the first dose of a single-shot vaccine. 

The individual hired into this role will be required to submit their completed vaccination documentation to the university’s secure online health portal prior to beginning work.  Individuals with an approved medical or religious exemption on file with the university will be required to participate in SDSU’s COVID-19 testing program.
