Qualifications
The successful candidate is expected to have a record of research and publications focused on Chicana/o/x borderlands feminism, community formations, and expressive culture of transnational and/or transborder Chican@/Latin@/Indigenous communities. The candidate should be able to teach lower division courses (that may include CCS 150 and CCS 111A) and upper division courses that may include Community Studies courses (CCS 303), Chicano Culture and Thought (CCS 376), courses on Immigration and Borderlands (CCS 306, CCS 355, CCS 405), and Film (CCS 400) as well as courses they develop within their area of expertise. In addition, we seek a scholar who has demonstrated experience with community-based engagement and/or who is committed to developing community-based projects. This includes but is not limited to innovative collaborations between the community and University: public pedagogy, embedded praxis, and cultural/arts production.
In their letter of application, candidates should address the points below:
● Intersectional/interdisciplinary 20th century Chicano/a/x borderlands feminism focus;
● Strong record and promise of scholarly publication appropriate to level of appointment;
● Demonstrated experience and commitment to sustained and collaborative work with and in service to Chicano/a/x communities in and outside of the university.
● Commitment to research that engages Chicano/a/x communities;
● Demonstrated leadership in the service of underrepresented populations in higher education;
● Commitment to student-centered teaching of a diverse student population in a Hispanic-Serving Institution;
● Experience or demonstrated commitment to teaching and mentoring underrepresented students;
● Leadership in community organizing and engagement; and
● Demonstrated commitment to working collaboratively with colleagues, and especially to develop social justice-oriented scholarship and pedagogical practices.
We are seeking applicants with demonstrated experience in and/or commitment to teaching and working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and members of underrepresented groups. Candidates must satisfy two or more of the eight Building on Inclusive Excellence (BIE) criteria. Candidates that meet BIE criteria: (a) are committed to engaging in service with underrepresented populations within the discipline, (b) have demonstrated knowledge of barriers for underrepresented students and faculty within the discipline, (c) have experience or have demonstrated commitment to teaching and mentoring underrepresented students, (d) have experience or have demonstrated commitment to integrating understanding of underrepresented populations and communities into research, (e) have experience in or have demonstrated commitment to extending knowledge of opportunities and challenges in achieving artistic/scholarly success to members of an underrepresented group, (f) have experience in or have demonstrated commitment to research that engages underrepresented communities, (g) have expertise or demonstrated commitment to developing expertise in cross-cultural communication and collaboration, and/or (h) have research interests that contribute to diversity and equal opportunity in higher education.
