Job Summary
Under the general direction of the Chair, the incumbent plans, organizes and directs the support operation of the Electrical Engineering Department while providing leadership to support staff. The position manages various work priorities independently and are accountable for their own outcomes, utilizing independent judgment, discretion and deep understanding of university infrastructure, programs, policies, procedures, and regulations to address complex issues. This role ensures continuity during the three-year chair rotation.
Key Responsibilities
- Department Administration: Assures compliance with applicable university and program requirements, informing faculty and students on university regulations governing grading, graduation, admission practices and requirements, coordinating visiting scholar/researcher appointments, GWAR/Technical Writing and other graduation requirements, admission requirements, grade changes/appeals, and independently providing solutions to complex problems in these matters.
- Budget and Financial Planning: Assist the chair in financial planning and fund management, including all funds and special project accounts.
- Staff/Academic Personnel Administration: Oversees the work of and provide direction, training, and guidance to Administrative Support Assistant and recruits, hires, supervises, oversees, and provide training to the student assistants/work study students who support the many tenured and part-time faculty members, assuring accuracy and currency in meeting university deadlines.
- Course Scheduling and Classroom Assignment: Utilizing People Soft, Ad Astra and Common Management System, performs on-line course scheduling for academic year, summer, winter and intersession course scheduling, classroom, and instructor changes and faculty appointments and assuring accuracy and currency in meeting university deadlines.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Ability to work independently on complex assignments, exercise initiative and establish priorities. Knowledge of and skill in standard office procedures and practices, as well as an ability to understand and operate in a variety of organizational structures. Knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation Ability to communicate orally and in writing. Ability to use and quickly learn new office support technology systems and software packages.
Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."
Education and Experience
• Equivalent to five years of administrative support experience required.
• High school degree, technical/vocational program, or their equivalents preferred.
Physical Summary
Light work - Job involves some lifting of medium weight objects (10-20 pounds) and/or 10% - 20% of the job involves standing or walking.

Compensation
Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.
CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $4,058 -$6,653 per month.

1.0 time-base, 40 hours per week.
Duration of Appointment
This is a temporary position for two years with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
