Position Summary

The Network Analyst serves as a technical lead overseeing complex networks and coordinates large complex migration projects, including high-performance research networks.  The Network Analyst is responsible for designing and implementing advanced network architecture, ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance. 

The Network Analyst acts as the primary point of contact for Chancellor’s Office staff regarding campus networks and will evaluate technical solutions to enhance university-wide network performance and reliability.  

The Network Analyst supports the comprehensive installation, maintenance, management, and operation of both wired and wireless data networks at SDSU.  This includes configuring network devices, ensuring proper connectivity, and troubleshooting the most complex issues.

This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.

This position is eligible for a partial telecommuting schedule, with onsite work in San Diego.

IT Network Infrastructure (ITNI) provides network infrastructure to support the university's IT needs. ITNI supports the campus networks and Internet access, including all wired and wireless networking. ITNI provides campus telephone service for faculty and staff, including voice mail, call centers, and other voice services. We install and support campus fiber and copper cable infrastructure for all campus buildings. ITNI supports these services on the main campus, residence halls, IV-Calexico, IV-Brawley, and off-site foundation buildings.

Education and Experience

To enter this classification, a basic foundation of knowledge and skills in technical, information network systems is a prerequisite.  This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, industrial technology, telecommunications or a related technical field, or equivalent training and experience.  Foundation knowledge and skills for the Network Analyst include a basic knowledge of telecommunications and transmission technologies, including network architecture, topologies, protocols, programming applications and interfaces appropriate to the defined work area and assignments.  Based on specialized assignments, a position may also require background, and/or licensure if required, in computer operating systems, broadcast network functions, or telecommunication switching systems.

Key Qualifications

  • At least five years as a network analyst in a large enterprise network.
  • Experience in supporting and managing Palo Alto firewalls within an enterprise environment.
  • Experience leading technical projects on departmental or campus initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of networking technologies, including network protocols and management systems, with practical experience in multi-protocol routed environments.
  • Experience with HPE-Aruba wireless network and Alcatel Lunt routing and switching environments
  • Extensive background in supporting and maintaining enterprise-level wired and wireless networks.
  • Robust understanding of TCP/IP switching, routing, security, and wireless data network architectures and configurations.
  • Proven experience with Windows PC and Apple platforms.
  • Proficiency in supporting and configuring load balancers to optimize network traffic distribution.
  • Experience with Aruba Clearpass for network access control and policy enforcement.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $9,584 per month. 

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $7,020 - $13,594 per month.
