Position Summary

Are you passionate about supporting academic excellence and eager to contribute to a dynamic university environment? As the Doctoral Program Coordinator in the School of Public Health, you will support the School of Public Health team under the direction of the program directors. Your role will involve providing essential administrative support, guiding faculty and graduate students on requirements, policies, and procedures, and managing student files and records. Additionally, you will facilitate graduate program requirements, update documents and handbooks, and coordinate communications with a wide range of stakeholders, both inside and outside the university.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with current and prospective students, faculty, staff, and external partners to support the doctoral programs.
  • Program Coordinator: Oversee and support the operations of the Doctorate in Public Health and Joint Doctoral Programs with UCSD, ensuring compliance with academic policies and procedures.
  • Administrative Support: Manage student files and records, update program documents and handbooks, and provide administrative assistance to faculty and students.
  • Communication: Coordinate and communicate with stakeholders across SDSU and UCSD campuses, supporting administrative functions in areas such as admissions, accreditation, and governance.

Position Information

  • This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position.
  • Position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation.
  • Standard work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
  • This position is approved for partial telecommuting with onsite work in San Diego.

Department Summary

The School of Public Health (SPH) is one of five schools in the College of Health and Human Services. The SPH offers an undergraduate degree in public health, several graduate programs leading to the Master of Public Health (MPH) degree, Master of Science degrees, and joint MPH/Master of Social Work and MPH/Master of Arts in Latin American studies, as well as Joint Doctoral programs with the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) leading to doctoral degrees in Epidemiology, Health Behavior, and Global Health. The school is also home to an independent Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) degree program. The SPH is also home to four research and public health practice institutes and centers, and three labs.

Education and Experience

Entry to this classification requires a fully functional knowledge of and skill in standard office procedures and practices, as well as an ability to understand and operate in a variety of organizational structures. Additionally, incumbents are expected to have a thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation and be able to clearly communicate orally and in writing. Some positions may require a knowledge of business mathematics beyond basic arithmetic. The ability to use and quickly learn new office support technology systems and software packages is also a prerequisite.

These qualifications would normally be obtained through a high school program, technical/vocational program, or their equivalents combined with several years of related office work experience.

Licenses and/or Certifications

  • California Driver’s License or ability to obtain one within 10 days of hire
  • Must be able to obtain Defensive Driving Certification

Key Qualifications

  • Customer service orientation.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
  • Administrative experience with a graduate level academic program preferred.
  • Experience in higher education is preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $4,190 per month. 

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,058 - $6,653 per month.
