Position Summary

Are you a talented graphic designer looking to make an impact on a vibrant campus community? We have an exciting opportunity for a Graphic Designer I at Facilities Graphics, part of the dynamic Facilities Services department, supporting our Sign Shop and Reprographics teams. As a Graphic Designer I, you will bridge the gap between creative concepts and final deliverables. You will work closely with other designers to ensure all materials meet the brand standards and production requirements. This role is ideal for someone with an eye for detail, strong technical skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design Execution: Prepare and finalize production ready files for print, digital, and other media for Reprographics. 
  • Hands-On Production: Dive into full production art, installation, fabrication, and maintenance for the Sign Shop.
  • Team Collaboration: Offer your skills and administrative assistance to our dedicated team, ensuring smooth operations and project success.
  • Technical Preparation: Ensure all files are properly formatted, named, and organized for easy access and future use.
  • Brand Compliance: Maintain consistency with SDSU guidelines across all deliverables.

Position Information

  • This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible permanent/probationary position.
  • This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation.
  • Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
  • The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.

Department Summary

The Division of Business and Financial Affairs is responsible for ensuring a safe, productive campus environment while providing the highest quality service in support of academic excellence through thoughtful stewardship of financial, technological, infrastructure and human resources at San Diego State University.

SDSU Facilities Services (FS) is a customer-service based organization providing facility maintenance activities through a transparent and deliberate process. It is responsible for the operation, maintenance, repair, renovation, remodel, and alteration activities in support of the academic and research mission of the university. Facilities Services employs approximately 250 employees and supports approximately eight million square feet of buildings (including residence halls and parking structures) and 280 acres of improved and unimproved land.

Education and Experience

Entry to the first level within this classification requires foundation knowledge in the principles and techniques of artistic and graphic design as well as demonstrated design and artistic skills. This knowledge and skill normally is obtained through a college degree in graphic design, fine arts, or a related field or through technical experience and/or relevant coursework. In addition, strong communication skills and the ability to use and maintain currency with applicable computer software packages and systems are essential to entering this classification.

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Fine Art, or relevant field is preferred.
  • Foundational knowledge in the principles and techniques of artistic and graphic design, as well as demonstrated artistic and design skills.
  • Ability to use Adobe Creative Suite and other software relevant to Graphic Design and to remain current with updated skills and technologies. 
  • Basic knowledge of copyright laws .
  • Strong professional written and verbal communication skills 
  • Educational or professional experience in reprographic preflight file preparation.
  • Basic knowledge of software relevant to project management and time/material recording such as Print MIS, Smartsheet, and other work management software.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $4,167 per month. 

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,058 - $6,883 per month.
