Key Responsibilities:
- Office Coordination: Provide administrative support for faculty under the supervision of the Department Chair.
- Budget & Fiscal Management: Handle budgetary tasks and manage fiscal responsibilities.
- Faculty RTP Support: Assist with the Retention, Tenure, and Promotion process.
- Course Scheduling: Coordinate and maintain accurate course schedules.
- Faculty Appointments: Process and track faculty appointments.
- Policy Interpretation: Enforce and clarify academic and administrative policies.
- Data & Committee Support: Gather data and assist with departmental committees.
- Student Supervision: Hire and supervise student employees.
- Event Coordination: Organize department events and meetings.
- Student & Community Interaction: Serve as the front office contact for students and community members.

Position Information
- This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position.
- This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation.
- Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
- The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.

Department Summary
The Department of Chicana and Chicano Studies (CCS) focuses on the nation's fast-growing ethnic group (Chicanas/os | Latinas/os) as well as the interplay of culture, politics, economics, and society in the dynamic U.S.-Mexican border region. The department nurtures and oversees the development of knowledge about Chicano/Latino populations and the border region through original scholarship on the part of its faculty and students. It recognizes women and gender-based issues as integral to a Chicana/o studies program.
The department has nine full-time tenured and tenure-track faculty members, five part-time faculty, a work study student, and a student assistant. This position is under the supervision of the Department Chair.

Education and Experience
Entry to this classification requires a fully functional knowledge of and skill in standard office procedures and practices, as well as an ability to understand and operate in a variety of organizational structures. Additionally, incumbents are expected to have a thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation and be able to clearly communicate orally and in writing. Some positions may require a knowledge of business mathematics beyond basic arithmetic. The ability to use and quickly learn new office support technology systems and software packages is also a prerequisite.
These qualifications would normally be obtained through a high school program, technical/vocational program, or their equivalents combined with several years of related office work experience.

Key Qualifications
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Experience creating flyers and brochures.
- Experience coordinating administrative support functions for a group.
- Experience with data entry and updating database records.
- Experience in work settings that support diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Experience working with student management databases (such as Peoplesoft, My.SDSU, or similar systems) is preferred.
- Experience working at special events is preferred.
- Bilingual English/Spanish Speaker preferred.

Compensation and Benefits
Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $3,864 per month.
Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.
