As the Associate Director for Business Operations, you will be a key member of the Office of Housing Administration team. Working closely with the Executive Director, Associate Directors, managers, staff, and student assistants, you will help drive our mission, vision, and values forward. Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership & Management: Oversee the Business Operations unit, including Project Coordination, Business Effectiveness, Emergency Management, Health and Safety, and Information Technology.
- Security Oversight: Lead the Assistant Director of Security Operations to ensure effective management of security initiatives within student housing.
- Policy Development: Create and implement policies, set short-term and long-term goals, and evaluate progress.
- Team Coordination: Direct the activities of team members, including Logistics Coordinator, Project Specialist, Lead System Analyst, Operations Systems Analyst, Industrial Hygienist, Business Operations Coordinator, and Student Assistants.
- Staff Development: Manage hiring, orientation, training, coaching, evaluations, and disciplinary actions for staff.
- Strategic Planning: Lead long-term planning and strategic business development to support the evolving housing needs of SDSU students and stakeholders.
- Collaboration: Work with the members of the offices of Housing Administration, Residential Education, and campus partners on housing initiatives to enhance operations, support student success, and strengthen community engagement.

Position Information
- This is a full-time, at-will role, offering comprehensive benefits.
- Position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation.
- Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
- The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.

Department Summary
The Division of Business and Financial Affairs is responsible for ensuring a safe, productive campus environment while providing the highest quality service in support of academic excellence through thoughtful stewardship of financial, technological, infrastructure, and human resources at San Diego State University.
The Office of Housing Administration (OHA) is a self-funded operation responsible for planning, providing, and administering housing operations, services, and facilities with over 100 employees and over 150 student assistants with an annual operating budget exceeding $145,000,000. OHA provides housing for over 8,500 students in 25 communities with over 2 million sq. ft. of residential facilities. The OHA manages the operation of residence halls, apartments, conference and event spaces. The OHA supports the educational mission of the Residential Education Office (REO) while providing business operations for all housing-related functions in support of a quality environment to enhance the student educational experience.

Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree
- Five or more years of university housing experience. (Master’s Degree may substitute for one year of required experience)

Key Qualifications
- Experience in designing, implementing, and improving systems and processes to enhance organizational efficiency and effectiveness.
- Proven ability to manage complex projects, overseeing planning execution and coordination to achieve operational goals.
- Proven leadership experience in collaborating, building, and celebrating team success while leading complex operational and logistical initiatives in student housing.
- Strong written communication skills, with experience in preparing reports, policies, and professional documentation.
- Experience in emergency management planning, including preparedness, response coordination, and crisis leadership.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise, mentor, and develop both full-time professional staff and student employees, ensuring alignment with departmental goals.
- Proficiency in Google Suite, including Docs, Sheets, and Slides, for collaboration, data analysis, and reporting.
- Experience with project management software, such as Smartsheet, to track and coordinate complex initiatives.
- Familiarity with student information management systems, such as StarRez, for housing operations, occupancy management, and data reporting.
- Understanding of student privacy regulations, such as FERPA, and the ability to handle sensitive information in compliance with federal and institutional guidelines.
